Don't Be Bitter - Week 36

Image
Week 36 - The Bitter Lemon Margarita Once again I find myself sliding my drink in at the very last minute this week.  I actually had to schedule time to drink on my calendar.  Who does that!?!  I really hope life slows down in the near future because I'm about spent!  I live and breath by my calendar though and the week 36 drink was completed, so I guess it all turned out in the end.  This week's drink of choice is The Bitter Lemon Margarita. I have never used bitters in a drink before today, so I was flying blind on this one.  As I have mentioned several times, I love lemon in almost any form (or so I thought!) so I figured this would be no big deal.  I was wrong. I'm used to a fresh citrusy taste for lemon drinks.  Adding the bitters, drastically changed the drink in way that did not suit my palate.  I realize some people may enjoy this change, but it wasn't for me.  It also dramatically changed the color of the drink to a deep orange, almost red color.  It w

Two Blondes Walk Into A Bar - Week 35

Week 35 - The Blonde Margarita Today was a perfect Sunday.  I didn't have anything pressing to do.  I watched football, golf and made margaritas.  I even fit in a nap.  It doesn't get much better than that!  The perfect celebration of this day is my week 35 drink -  The Blonde Margarita. This drink calls for light cream and vanilla Schnapps in addition to Tequila and simple syrup.  I went on a search a few months ago for vanilla schnapps.  I checked a few stores nearby and had no luck finding it.  I thought this was odd, but recognized that I was going to smaller stores and thought I just needed a bigger store.  Since then, I have tried 5 additional stores over the last several weeks.  I admit, I did not see this obstacle coming.  It seemed like such a simple thing to find.   Finally at the last store I visited, I asked the person working there why this was so hard to find.  She didn't have an answer for me, but she did offer a solution - an alternative liquor that wou

Every Bloody Needs a Buddy - Week 34

Week 34 - The Bloody Rita This week definitely did not go as planned, but it ended up turning out pretty great in the end!  I was supposed to be travelling all week, but thanks to Hurricane Florence, I had to rearrange some flights to ensure I could make it home.  Also, some of my dear friends that live in South Carolina needed to evacuate, so they ended up in Jacksonville with me for most of the week.  It was a fantastic opportunity to spend some time with them.  And, bonus - their house is still standing and has no damage, so it was best case scenario!  Cheers to that! My friends enjoy a Blood Mary, so we tried the Bloody Rita recipe for this week's drink.  I have only recently started drinking Bloody Mary drinks within this past year.  I want to like them, but there's a lot of flavor going on and they overwhelm me a little bit.  I keep trying them though and am dedicated to finding one I like.  This recipe called for Bloody Mary mix in addition to tequila and lime jui

No Champagne, No Gain - Week 33

Week 33 - The Sparkling Margarita It has been an incredibly long few weeks.  Work has been crazy and I’m once again behind on my blog posts.  While it does bother me that I am behind schedule, I have arrived at a place in life where it’s not the end of the world for me to be off schedule a little.  I like to think of this as progress in my type A, left brain sequential world.  I enjoy my job a lot and I accept that it sometimes takes over my life.  I also accept that my job allows me to continue to shop (and buy margaritas) in the way upon which I have become accustom! lol.  I also enjoy that my mortgage gets paid, because I don’t think I would make a good homeless person and making margaritas could get dicey out of the back of my car!  My week 33 drink is dedicated to all the overworked people in the world.  I raise my glass of Sparkling Margarita to you!  Cheers. I was very apprehensive about this drink because I'm not a huge champagne fan.   So I went in cautiously optimist
