Berry Nice to Meet You - Week 6

Image
Week 6 - The Berries Jubilee Margarita Okay, it's time for me to face my frozen fears.  I need to attempt another frozen margarita. Pray for me.  I'm pretty sure the UPS driver for my neighborhood is wondering what on earth is going on at my house to warrant the recent uptick in Amazon deliveries.  Nothing to see here sir, just a girl and her margarita shaker!  I realize daily that I am woefully underprepared for drink making.  The more I get into it, the more fun things I find I need.  Don't get me wrong, drink making can be pretty simple, but sometimes the right equipment makes it a whole lot easier.  This week I added a jigger to help me more accurately measure ingredients.  Up to this point, I have really been just eyeing it using shot glasses.  I learned after I placed my order that these things came in different sizes - who knew?!?  Thankfully, luck was on my side and I accidentally ordered the one I wanted - one ounce on one side and two ounces on the othe

Oh My Madras - Week 5

Week 5 - The Margarita Madras I can't believe it's already week 5!  This year and my new challenge is flying by.  I'm still gun shy on the frozen drink making since my week 3 misstep, so I decided to continue one more week with a more traditional recipe, sans the blender!  For week 5, I decided to go with a Margarita Madras.  Truth be told, I still had some orange juice left from last week's drink so it made life a little easier. The description of this drink states it's a new twist on the classic cocktail, the Madras.  This meant nothing to me since I know nothing of drinks, classic or otherwise:)  I did a quick Google search to get more information.  The traditional Madras is made with vodka.  All other ingredients were about the same.  Interesting... Now that I have my new fun drink glasses (see week 4 for explanation), it's a lot of fun to select which glass to use for each drink.  However, I follow a few other drink making connoisseurs on Insta

Here Comes the Sun - Week 4

Week 4 - The Sunrise Margarita I'm a few weeks into the new year and my new hobby.  I've started to set up things like this blog and my new Instagram account - JessieOnTheRocks.  Side note - don't forget to follow me on Instagram.  It's apparently how I now define my self-worth!  I've never watched a number more carefully or with such excitement in my life.  I am of course kidding, but in all honesty, it is satisfying to see that people think my adventure is interesting enough to follow.  While setting up my Instagram, I began to follow others that enjoy making cocktails.  I noticed that many people use interesting and unique glasses to prepare drinks.  It occurred to me that I do not have very many different types of glasses in which to make my margaritas.  I have a few that I have collected over the years and I enjoy them very much, but if I am going to do this challenge for a whole year, I'm going to have to up my glass game.  I decided to head to Hom

I Make Pour Decisions - Week 3

Week 3 - The Stroange Margarita For week three, I knew I needed to make a trip to the liquor store to beef up my liquor cabinet.  I looked ahead a few weeks to see what I might make and headed to the store.  I left with my wallet $100 lighter and everything I needed, as well as a few things I didn't even know I needed!  No one said my drink making hobby was going to be cheap!  You can check out some of my liquor store haul in the photo below.  Side note, I'm building up quite the home bar!  I feel like a grown up, except that I was already a grown up, just a lame one.  lol!  For week three, I decided to venture out a bit and try a frozen margarita.  I personally prefer a margarita on the rocks, with lots of salt, but the point of doing this blog is to try new things and get out of my comfort zone. I chose the Stroange Margarita for my first frozen attempt.  The recipe is a traditional margarita recipe, with the addition of Grand Marnier, strawberries and oran

Week 2:  The Meyer Lemon Margarita As I mentioned in my first post ( How it all began ) blogging is new to me and I have been learning how it works as I go.  I'm so thankful to my incredibly tech savvy pals @RedWineSippyCup and KendrellaVirginia for showing me the ropes and patiently answering my incessant follow up questions - you mean I should use more than one hashtag? What happens if I notice a typo?  How do I link a prior blog post? lol.  Everyone needs a helping hand occasionally and these two have been mine.   Side note – it has been brought to my attention that I really like to use commas and exclamation points!   I was previously unaware of my affinity for both of these things.    It seems this blog has already helped me learn something about myself!   I’ve given this some thought and I’ll try to lay off the commas, but the exclamation points are going to be tough.  Ultimately, I accept this as part, of, who, I, am!!! lol T hough I started this adventure/challeng
